The Rose Carleo Band have been threatening to deliver a ball-tearer such as this for some time, and if their recent cover of AC/DC’s ‘Hell Ain’t A Bad Place To Me’ was the entrée, ‘Line ‘Em Up’ is the adrenaline fuelled main course. This frenetic rocker roars out of the speakers and instantly demands your attention with its killer riff and appealing melody lines, the band quickly locking in and finding their groove. Thematically, the song takes the listener on a biographical look at the band with the formidable rhythm of Mick O’ Shea and Steve King referenced in the verses, the lyrics describing the atmosphere of a loud, hot and sweaty show followed by the raucous after party at the end of the gig. If you thought Boston’s ‘Rock and Roll Band’ and Aerosmith’s ‘No More No More’ were unsurpassed as biographical rock songs, you may want to think again. The chorus itself is huge and again, demonstrates what a vocal powerhouse Rose Carleo really is, before Mick Adkins arrives with a stinging guitar solo that is nothing short of exhilarating. ‘Line ‘Em Up’ is absolutely massive and scores a 10 out of 10 from us here at the Australian Rock Show.

The Rose Carleo Band are a no bullshit, hard riffing, loud Australian band with an authenticity that sets them apart from the pack. The lineage to Rose Tattoo, the Angels and Judge Mercy aside, the X factor in this band is front woman Carleo, whose commanding presence and colossal vocals add significant appeal to their material. If there is a better frontwoman in Oz rock in 2023 I’d like to know who it is.
