Daisy’s Song’ is in one word – colossal, and if given a pathway/platform to a wider audience, could finally see Rose Carleo break through after several years plying her trade as one of Australia’s best kept rock ‘n’ roll secrets.
Musically, ‘Daisy’s Song’ is underscored by a unified groove of pounding drums and rumbling bass that build to a monster chorus with an oversupply of melody. The song is augmented by tasteful guitars, nothing overplayed and strategically placed, and an exquisite solo that chases the melody lines of the chorus. Stunning.
Carleo’s powerhouse vocals are perfectly suited to the rock and ballad genres and she brings a unique blend of both power and emotion to this song, ensuring that it has a lasting impact, and a contemporary sound that remains relevant.
Super catchy, this is so FM radio-friendly it almost demands airplay. It has hit single written all over it. If you must have a reference point, think Baby Animals. 21st Century power balladry with Oz-rock spirit. An arena rocker on par with anything penned by Diane Warren (go Google her yourself if unfamiliar). A claim not made lightly.
Thematically, the song tells the tale of Daisy’s battle with mental health issues and cries for help. Serious issues that resonate with people the world over and lyrics we can all relate to. As many of us appreciate, rock ‘n’ roll is often a source of hope, comfort and therapy. ‘Daisy’s Song’ ticks all those boxes.
Put simply, there aren’t enough superlatives to do this one justice. In a just world, ‘Daisy’s Song’ will take out the 2025 ARIA Single of the Year Award. It’s that good. Make it a just world.
